The Mississippi
Geological Society invites your participation in a two-day seminar
entitled: “A Practical Introduction to Sequence Stratigraphy
Using Seismic and Well Log Data”. This course is designed for
geologists and geophysicists who wish to learn the basic
principles, methodology and applications of sequence stratigraphy
to exploration and production. The course will not only review
the basic concepts of sequence stratigraphy, but will also place
emphasis on the practical application of sequence stratigraphy
through numerous Gulf Coast examples and exercises using seismic
and well-log data. The course will cover siliclastic and
carbonate facies deposited in nonmarine to deep-marine settings.
The participants will learn how to recognize sequences, to
subdivide them into systems tracts and parasequences, and we will
investigate some of the sequence stratigraphic aspects of
stratigraphic traps and migration pathways.
Dr. C.
Robertson Handford received his Ph.D. in geology from
Louisiana State University in 1976. Since then he has spent most
of his professional career in petroleum industry research, chiefly
within the field of sedimentology and stratigraphy. He has worked
for the Texas Bureau of Economic Geology, and the research
laboratories of Unocal, Amoco and Arco. In addition, he taught
geology at the University of Arkansas for two years. He is
currently a consulting sedimentologist and stratigrapher and
president of Strata-Search, LLC, based in Austin, Texas. His
experience base ranges from North America, Central America, and
South America, to Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast
Asia. Dr. Handford was selected as AAPG Distinguished Lecturer
for 1995-1996 on carbonate stratigraphy.

Due to limited seating,
registration is limited to 60 people, so be sure to register
early.
